Our plan for this non-profit is to purchase the land surrounding Tim Pond and to put it into a trust and conservation easement to ensure our children, grandchildren, and future generations can enjoy Tim Pond and its beauty. Our focus is to protect and preserve the land within the watershed of Tim Pond.

History

Tim Pond is rich in history; the first camp was built in 1832 by Charles Lyman Eustis and his Indian Guide, Tim and was used as a lumber camp. Tim also guided fishermen. The camps were then bought by Kennedy Smith in 1877 and he began operating as hunting and fishing camps. In 1884 Julian K. Viles bought the camps and built more cabins and made many improvements. The Viles Family owned and operated the camps from 1884 until after World War II. Viles Family: J.K. Viles 1884-1910; H.K. Viles 1910-1936; Carrie Viles & A.B. Sargent 1936-1947.

Tim Pond went on to change hands a few more times; Wayne Hussey 1947-1964; Keith Hodsdon 1964-1975; Joel Hodsdon 1975-1981. And now the Calden Family 1981-present.

The Calden’s have been in stewardship of Tim Pond going on 40 years, and over that time the land itself has had seven different owners, the first six were paper companies that used the land for wood in their mills. In recent years most of the paper companies have sold their land and it has been bought up by investment groups that have to maximize their profits for the investors. This has brought instability to the sporting camp industry with leases going from 99 years, down to one year in many circumstances. That brings us to where we are today, now is the time to secure this sporting camp heritage for future generations.

This corporation has been started by two groups. Members of the Calden Family; Harvey, Betty, Bill, Darcie, and Wendy. Descendants of the Viles Family; Carrie Wilson and Debbie Burzynski.

Our initial goal is to purchase the land and conservation easement around the pond, and depending on timber value at the time is estimated to be $500K.

The long term goal is to purchase the entire watershed area of approximately 4500 acres; to ensure total preservation and conservation of the land, the pond, the fish and the wildlife.

In order to achieve our mission we will need your help!
